Picadillo (ground Meat Stew)

Ingredients

- 2 tablespoons cooking oil
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 1/2 lbs lamb or 1 1/2 lbs beef, finely chopped
- 1 lb large tomato, peeled, seeded, and chopped
- 2 tablespoons tomato puree
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
- 2 tablespoons red wine vinegar
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 -3 jalapeno pepper
- salt
- pepper
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds (optional)
Recipe
- 1 heat oil and brown onion and garlic; add meat and brown. add next 9 ingredients. cover and cook slowly for 30 minutes. if the mixture dries out, add a little water. when cooked, add the peppers and salt and pepper to taste. if used, fry the almonds in a little oil and sprinkle over the picadillo. the mixture should be dry. this freezes well.
