Grossinger's Sweet Potato And Prune Tzimmes W/ Meat

Total Time: 3 hrs 20 mins Preparation Time: 20 mins Cook Time: 3 hrs

Ingredients

  • Servings: 6
  • 1 1/2 lbs prunes
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 3 lbs beef brisket, cut into 6 pieces
  • 2 onions, diced
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 3 sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Recipe

  • 1 1. wash prunes and let them soak in the boiling water for 1/2 hour.
  • 2 2. heat the oil, in a dutch oven, over medium.
  • 3 3. brown the meat with the onions.
  • 4 4. sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • 5 5. cover and cook on low heat for 1 hour.
  • 6 6. add the undrained prunes, sweet potatoes, honey, cloves and cinnamon.
  • 7 7. replace cover loosely and cook over low heat at least 2 hours ( more is better).
