French Onion Soup

Total Time: 1 hr 10 mins Preparation Time: 10 mins Cook Time: 1 hr

Ingredients

  • Servings: 4
  • 4 large onions
  • 6 cups beef stock or 6 cups beef bouillon
  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Recipe

  • 1 cut peeled onions in half lengthwise.
  • 2 slice into thin slices.
  • 3 saute in butter in frying pan until a rich brown colour.
  • 4 add beef stock or bouillon and salt.
  • 5 simmer to distribute flavour and to finish cooking onion.
  • 6 ladle into bowls.
  • 7 top with toasted slices of french bread or croutons.
  • 8 cover with lots of cheese.
  • 9 bake in 450°f oven or broil to melt and brown cheese.
